OVERVIEW

FundNavigator™ is a business logic and data consolidation architecture for the investment management space. Fund, market and client data (sourced from various inhouse and external systems) are extracted, cleansed and conformed into a stable and single relational representation of the organisation's data. This single view of enterprise data then becomes the reliable foundation upon which meaningful reports and intelligence can be derived.

FundNavigator's consolidated database already contains several ready-to-use business logic routines (eg. calculations for time-weighted returns, several risk statistics, valuation look-through analysis and composite benchmarks among others) for the use in reports, dashboards and cubes. The system enables the automation of many leftover business, quants & compliance processes not handled by specialist source systems. FundNavigator's relational database is also the source for constructing datamart dimensional cubes. (We explain more about this in our "hybrid-theory" technical explanation)

FundNavigator is crafted with the central design philosophy that business end users should be the custodians and executors of BI and operational reporting solutions. To this end, FundNavigator has significant runtime end-user configuration options as well as sophisticated runtime code plug-ins for future extensions as requirements evolve.

HIGHLIGHTED FEATURES

Comprehensive Data Structures

FundNavigator's data model covers a wide range of portfolio data structures including: collective investments (with separately unit-priced fee classes), multi-manager, segregated and fund of funds as well as white-labelled fund structures. We recently added data models for discretionary model portfolios where daily performance and prices are calculated by the system automatically.

The data model supports flexible security classification and caters for additional multiple hierarchical classifications such as instrument sector trees. Users can also maintain them separately from source system versions.

User-friendly System

FundNavigator includes a powerful and user-friendly Windows desktop client application which is the primary interface to the consolidated data model. With the desktop client, users can easily search and navigate their complex and varied fund data, do master data management and also trigger reports or view dashboards interactively.

The front end contains several convenience features for executing bulk reports, cloning portfolios and corporate branding based on previously set up configurations. Newly developed SQL Server reports can be weaved into the relevant front end entities at run time with auto-mapping to report parameters.

API for Generated Reports

Every report produced on FundNavigator is collated from the consolidated database and is stored separately in "output reports" databases. Each report has unique report keys and date-time stamps to identify them. This means that users can always access previously generated reports and inspect their underlying data sets and redact them from circulation.

Generated reports that are authorised for release are accessible via FundNavigator's server-side XML/JSON API. This feature allows FundNavigator-geneated data to be integrated with other systems and with websites where content needs to be disseminated.
